Flux

The rivers of the Canterbury Plains vary over the year from dry river beds to torrents that flood the surrounding farmland. I visited this particular spot not long after devastating floods had created havoc over the landscape. It was amazing to see how quickly this waterway had reverted back to a placid bubbling stream, with only the water-raked grasses leaving a hint of the river’s flux.
This artwork was created for a group exhibition of the Selwyn Artists Collective, and there is a ‘sister’ artwork by fellow Canterbury printmaker Soon-Lee Spicer of the same location titled “Old Bridge, New Bridge.”
