Forest Brew

I was asked to create this tea bag artwork by a family who love New Zealand flora and fauna. After discussing ideas with them, I settled on a ‘forest floor to canopy’ scene set in the New Zealand forest.

There are many treasures included within this piece. The Rimu and Kauri trees stand tall and proud to form the forest canopy, with arching Nikau palms and Kawakawa in the understory below. Epiphytes cling to the forks of the trees and a rata vine reaches upwards for light. Underneath all these, ferns and young trees jostle for space on the forest floor.

Hidden amongst the foliage are five New Zealand native birds. In the trees can be found a Ruru, Kereru, Piwakawaka and Tui. Then scurrying along the forest floor is the cheeky weka.
