The Christchurch Art Show tested my bravery, stami The Christchurch Art Show tested my bravery, stamina, and my ability to talk to thousands of people about my art in the space of three days.

I think I passed the test!

I'm still alive and have met so many wonderful people - both artists and visitors. I even came home with less art than I took in! 😁

I feel that I earned my first Artist Pass. Now for a rest 😴
Good morning from Te Pae 😊 It's the last day of Good morning from Te Pae 😊 It's the last day of the Art Show for 2022 and we're open until 5pm!

Another busy day of art has come to an end, and I Another busy day of art has come to an end, and I am ready to crawl into bed in a state of happy exhaustion 😴.

Many more artworks went to new homes today. This included one of my control tower artworks bought by an air traffic controller tonight about to start their evening shift in the Christchurch tower. What a perfect home for it! ✈
This is me still smiling at the end of a very busy This is me still smiling at the end of a very busy opening night at the Christchurch Art Show 😊.

Gosh, at times I found the crowds slightly overwhelming, but I really loved meeting so many interesting people and talking to them about my art.

Several artworks went to new homes last night, and it was wonderful to meet their new owners, and see their real connection to these artworks. I was so happy to see these artworks go to such genuinely lovely people ♥.

A big day ahead - we're open 10am to 8pm today. Need a cup of tea to get me ready 😂
This is just one of several new artworks that I wi This is just one of several new artworks that I will be showing publicly for the very first time at the Christchurch Art Show this weekend.

The artwork in this image is called "Parting" and for me it is about finding peace when letting go or saying goodbye. It looks stunning framed, and I might have some trouble letting go of this edition! (genuine irony there)

I will also have two brand new tea bag artworks for all you tea lovers out there! 🍵

Visit www.chchartshow.co.nz for more information on the art show.
A long time ago when working a student job my boss A long time ago when working a student job my boss told me emphatically that I had "the worst handwriting in the world".

She was clearly no handwriting expert, and I never took her comment to heart, but I still have never forgotten those words.

Today I was editioning my latest artwork "Parting" (adding the edition number, title and my signature). I had great satisfaction thinking that my handwriting that was so unfairly condemned all those years ago would be framed and hung on someone's wall 😊.

It's amazing how words can stick with us, so it's nice when they are positive ♥. Is there something someone said to you long ago that stuck with you?
A tiny feathered friend is hiding out in my latest A tiny feathered friend is hiding out in my latest artwork. What is it up to? Why is it there?

Sometimes I use an artwork to tell a story, and sometimes the artwork has a story of its own to tell me. This print was definitely the latter. I love it when an artwork takes you on an unexpected journey!

Only 10 days to go until the Christchurch Art Show, so things are very busy in the studio - ink and paper everywhere! I'll try to do a few more posts before then, so you can share in the craziness too! 😂

After a busy weekend at the Selwyn Art Show it was rather relaxing to wrap a print with brown paper and string this morning 🌿
SOLD! It's an oldie but a goodie 🙂 Another of m SOLD! It's an oldie but a goodie 🙂 Another of my "Boots and All" prints has walked out the door at the Selwyn Art Show. I have always loved the message behind this print....

Boots and All

I love getting out into New Zealand’s Great Outdoors. There is a limitless number of places to explore. I take my sketchbook and paints and a supply of insect repellent, and then sit for hours sketching the landscape around me. This can sometimes make for a very slow walking pace!

The print “Boots and All” is a celebration of great times outdoors, but it also speaks to me about the need in life to sometimes jump into things with two feet. A scary proposition, but until you jump in “Boots and All” you probably won’t know whether it was a good idea – or not!

It doesn't look like the creation of art... But I It doesn't look like the creation of art... But I promise it is!

Towards the end of last year I spent a lovely day with some folks at the Lakeland Gallery making some clay pieces.

Today we all headed to the beach to 'pit fire' our pottery. This involves building an enormous bonfire over your clay pieces and keeping the temperature sufficiently hot enough over time to bake them.

It's hot energetic work so we had a super collaborative bonfire lunch (on a smaller campfire nearby).

Thanks to a sound education in Northern Ontario campfire cuisine, I made 'bread on sticks' (a superior version of kiwi damper) for everyone.

They were declared a work of art. I rest my case 😁
"What do you do for work?" Sometimes it's just ea "What do you do for work?"

Sometimes it's just easier to make it up than tell the truth 😂

Anyone else got a job like that?

"This afternoon I emptied the leaves out of over one hundred used dried teabags by carefully cutting into the back of them with a scalpel. Later I'm going to print hand-carved images of regional control towers on them, then frame them and sell these used tea bags for other people to enjoy..."

A beautiful day up the Matukituki River Valley las A beautiful day up the Matukituki River Valley last week inspired this very quick sketch.

The stick figures on the bridge are possibly a result of reading a rather lot of Arthur Ransome as a child 😊. Did anyone else love the illustrations in his Swallows and Amazons series? I think Arthur Ransome may be the champion of the stick figure, and therefore should be an inspiration to anyone who finds drawing people a challenge 😁.
Happy Autumn everyone! 😊 Today I found the cut Happy Autumn everyone! 😊

Today I found the cutest little toadstool sitting in a carpet of yellow leaves. If I were a toadstool I'd choose a beautiful spot like this to grow too 🍄.
I'm super pleased to be able to share with you the I'm super pleased to be able to share with you the finished set of NZ control towers.

To answer a couple of questions that I know some of you have....

1. Why Control Towers?
Well, why not?! Firstly, I have a general interest in highlighting or celebrating things we might normally overlook. I am quite interested in the architecture of lighthouses, and the way they were designed and constructed. I feel like there is a connection between the two types of structures: lighthouses and control towers. They both serve a practical purpose, however one we tend to romanticise, and the other not so much. I find this difference really fascinating.

2. How did you choose which towers to depict?
I chose each tower for a different reason. It might have been the architecture of the tower, or the way it relates to the landscape around it. I tried in each image to capture my impressions and thoughts about each structure and its relationship to location. I didn't try to make a complete set of regional towers, rather I chose the ones that piqued my interest.

3. What's next for this artwork?
Well, I think I've nearly consumed enough Choysa Round Tea recently to start printing the edition. As some of you know, I normally make an edition of 10 of each of my tea bag artworks, this usually translates into over 100 tea bags by the time I am finished! (some tea bags get rejected along the way and end up in the compost heap). So I'll soon be emptying out tea leaves all over my studio desk, before inking up and printing.

I wanted to emphasise the cone-like shape of the tower rising off a flat landscape with mountains in the distance. An arch of clouds creates a blanket overhead.

Today's Quiz Clue: I met someone who worked on the build of this tower the other week, and now they are involved in rebuilding a stone cathedral. Now that's job variety for you!

Today's Quiz Clue: This one looks like it has been blown over, and quite possibly it has!

After printing the images on several different surfaces I have gone back to Choysa Round Tea Bags. I really did try to see if I could stop filling my kitchen bench with used tea bags in various stages of drying, but the tea bag won yet again. So resigned to my fate, I bought another box of Choysa Rounds at the supermarket today...
